Top Ten Tuesday: YA Must Reads For Every Slytherin

After having such a blast doing the Harry Potter Book Tag the other day, I have decided to start a little HP inspired series of posts over here on Book Enthral and it just so happens that this weeks Top Ten Tuesday ties in perfectly with the first YA Must Reads For Every [insert Hogwarts House]! So HERE WE GO!

Slytherin’s get a bad rap for being the evil  house but really according to Pottermore admittance Slytherin is the “the coolest and edgiest house”. Slytherin’s can be characterized as ambitious, cunning, driven, determined, prepared, focused on goals, cleverness, big on cost vs benefit, charming, bold, assertive, ruthless, highly selective with they’re loyalty and strive on praise (you can read the full list of Slytherin’s personality traits here!)

The Rose Society by Marie Lu

23846013 (1)

In this dark YA we can see how a Slytherin has the determination and ambition can climb the whole way to the top… sometimes at the expensive of others.

Heist Society by Ally Carter

6574102 (1)

In this fun easy YA, MC Katarina Bishop, member of renouned art thief family is about to pull off her first every solo job. Know what it takes to pull off a successful heist? Cunning, cleverness, ambition – This book should practically be titled Slytherin Robs Gallery!

Nimona by Noelle Stevenson

This graphic novel will teach you what all Slytherin’s already know.. That villiany is all about perspective! Sure from the outside it may look like you’re only there to cause trouble but who says the strongest bonds have to be forged with heroism.

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

10194157 (5)

This YA shows us that even if all signs point to a Slytherin being evil, doesn’t mean that’s the only way they’re going to go! Except for the Darkingly – The Darkling is as stereotypical Slytherin as you can get!

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas

13519397 (2)

I don’t think anyone embodies the struggle of being a cunning, ambitious and ruthless Slytherin better then Celeana Sordathian, we see her teeter on the edge of falling into the dark arts before pulling herself back to greatness – totally Merlin Slytherin level! P.S. I think I might have a problem of having to mention a Sarah J Maas book in literally every post I do, I need to go to SJM addicts anonymous.

Half Bad by Sally Green

18079804 (4)

In this YA our MC Nathan battles with the half of himself biologically programmed to be villainy, his ambition to prove the haters wrong is such a Slytherin trait this book needed to make the list!

Angelfall by Susan Ee

15863832 (5)

Penryn is cunning and resourceful and willing to do anything necessary for the few people she is loyal to, even if that means using (and sometimes abusing) innocent people. A Slytherin does anything to protect their own.

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E Schwab

A Darker Shade final for Irene

Our MCs Kell and Lila are you Slytherin’s to a T! They’re extremely competitive with one another, yet fiercly prtoective and loyal. Their cunning and ambition get’s them both in a lot of trouble but they’re always there to help each other get back out of it!

Do you agree that these are must reads for any Slytherin? Do you have any suggestions? Have I sorted any books disasterly wrong? Let me know! πŸ™‚

YAY!! I’d just say some more light reads like contemporaries for Hufflepuffs, I don’t think we’d be the type of people to pick up a huge, 1000 page high fantasy, well at least I wouldn’t hahaha.

      1. LOL I shouldn’t have said anything! I want to be a Slytherin, Pottermore stop betraying me!! Let’s be honest, I would be like Disney Descendants evil. Would do all the cool evil songs and wear evil clothing but really I’m a softie at heart XD

  2. What an interesting take on this week’s TTT!!! Love it! The only book I’ve read on this list is Nimona, (totally gotta agree with you that villiany is all about perspective! Loved it!) and Shadow and Bone (The Darkling would def get sorted in to Slytherin). I’ve got a Darker Shade of Magic on my TBR list…and I see its been on quite a few TTT lists this week, maybe its a sign that I’ve gotta start on it πŸ™‚ Interesting list! Thanks for the amusing read!

This is such a fantastic and creative list, not to mention so much fun! I love it! I also think all your selections are on the nose – especially with Lila and Adelina! They definitely show that Slytherins can have all the fun and be completely awesome, too!
