4 stars – It is really really really fantastic!! I loved reading it!
Mare Barrow’s blood is red—the color of common folk—but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control.
The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince—the friend—who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: she is not the only one of her kind.
Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors.
But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat.
Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?
**This review may contain spoilers from previous books in the series! You can read my review of Red Queen here!**
Okay if you need me, I shall be dead. At least until the third book comes out – what? An entire year from now. Cool. I don’t mind waiting. Not like I JUST FUCKING DIED OVER HERE.
More than anything I need to talk about 4 things:
1.HOLY SHIT THIS BOOK NEEDS A MAP. Okay. I challenge anyone to read this book and not be totally and completely thrown about where the hell everything is!! It’s like infuriating. Seriously! They travel to soooooooo many different places in this book I just want to have a visual que! I have heard that there is a map online but nobody got time to go look it up bro. Fix that shit.
I know I should just let this die but I love it 😀
2. MARE IS AN EMOTIONLESS BIOTCH. For like the middle 200 pages of this book (maybe even longer) I was hating this New Mare. If you don’t know what I’m talking about by New Mare, Mare in Red Queen is strong but compassionate, she’s easy to trust and loving and friendly but still pretty kickass. Mare in Glass Sword, AKA New Mare, is a emotionless robot from planet Bitch, who kills without compassion, totally disregards her family, manipulates the people who love and respect her, and doesn’t have one trusting or open bone in her body. To sum her up, she’s pretty damn awful and horrible to read from. At least that’s how I felt before I decided to get on team New-Mare-is-now-a-antihero! Once I jumped on board this new team I had a lot more fun reading the book. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still impatiently waiting for her to be a feeling human being again but it’s okay I can wait.
3. THIS BOOK IS FULL OF NEW CHARACTERS WITH NEW POWERS AND EXCUSE ME WHILE MY FANTASY LOVING FANGIRL MIND IMPLODES. At this point, if my love for fantasy comes to a shock to you, I’ll be very confused, so when Victoria pulled out like 20ish new characters all with these awesome new and ingenious powers I was like slow your load bro cause I love this shit! I want ALL THE POWERS!!!
4. HI, MY NAME IS AMY COUTTAS AND IF YOU DON’T GIVE ME SOME ROMANCE MY DISAPPOINTMENT MAY BE SO POWERFUL IT MELTS YOUR FACE OFF. I waited the whole of Red Queen for Mare and Cal to get together and it didn’t happen then I was like well-at-least-Maverns-out-of-the-way-now-and-they-can-be-together-in-the-next-one but nope. I’m sorry, but… WHY!? I just want them to be together! I want them to be all loved up and cute and instead I get an emotionless robot and a reluctant rebel. BOO TO YOU BOTH!
But seriously – Channing saying I just want you to be happy. My heart, be still.
This book seriously contained all the feels and now it’s just a gruelling wait until the next one again! I am disappointed I couldn’t give this book 5 stars I love Red Queen so much and I was hoping to love Glass Sword just as much, but alas it could not be.
Have you read Glass Sword yet? Do you agree this damn book needs a map?? And that Mare needs to grow some emotions back – cause damn girl! Let me know in the comments!
