MEETING SARAH J MAAS // I didn’t human very well!

So last night I went to my first ever book event, and it just happened to be for my All Time Favourite author SARAH J MAAS!!!! Yes, you shall all be jealous now! She is amazing! Honestly! She’s funny, charming, self deprecating,  patient as All Hell (she signed books for like 2 and 1/2 hours and was still smiling by the end) and just generally nice!

The event consisted of a Q&A, and then a signing. We were only allowed to get three of our books signed, I choose Throne of Glass, Queen of Shadows and ACOTAR. We weren’t allowed to record the Q&A, so I don’t have any of her answers for you but she did tell a funny story about being at Bloomsbury’s (the publishers that publish her books but also J.K Rowlings) London office and asking slyly if it was possible to just be in the same room as Jo, to which the publishers where just flat out No, and Sarah went on to say that it doesn’t matter how successful you get you still wont be able to get a in with J.K Rowlings.

I did learn a couple things about myself, 1) apparently I can’t human to well when placed in front of my favourite author and 2) I am as patient as a saint. 1) because when I finally got up to meet her I didn’t even really say anything for like 20seconds!!! LIKE WHAT?! I just had no idea what to say! It was a tad awks. But I think I pulled it together in the end (hopefully). And 2) because I was like the 6th last person to get their books signed and from the time the Q&A finished to when I left the event (after I got my books signed) was 2 hours and 22 mins. I know that’s how long it was because I have the time stamps on texts.

I also got to write in Sarah first ever copy of ToG. It’s the original cover, which she lovingly refers to as Cheerleader Celaena. She brings it to ever book event, and has all her fans sign it.

Even though there was a lot of waiting around, it was a lot of fun to get to meet and chat to other book nerds. There was a whole bunch of us sitting together who were currently reading Winter, so we all had a bit of a fangirl moment! And I convinced like 5 people they needed to go home and read ACOTAR like RIGHT NOW! (I was surprised that so many people there hadn’t read it). And because I was one of the last people to get their books signed I got to take a posed picture with Sarah and a free signed ACOTAR poster!!!

Is an absolutely shocking picture of myself, but beggars cant be choosers.

The event was so much fun and I will definitely be aiming to go to more book events in the future!

Oh and in totally un-Sarah related news, I stopped in at Starbucks on the way home, and told the barrister my name was Voldemort, AND HE PLAYED ALONG. It was just the cherry on top of my awesome night.

Yay for you! She’s actually such a lovely person. I got to see her back in May at an ACOTAR signing when the book first came out, and she was very patient with her fans. I know how nerve-racking it can be to meet your favorite author (I was struck dumb when I met Patrick Ness) but it’s such a lovely experience at the same time. 😀

There must be a natural human inclination to panic when we meet someone we love. I met my favorite composer/playwright/idol when I was in high school and I swear I almost blacked out from nervousness.
Glad to hear you had a good experience meeting Sarah J. Maas!
