Everything, Everything by Nicole Yoon // Fun, Fast & Cute!

4 stars

So this book is literally THE CUTEST!! To be honest, I’m not sure if that was the vibe Yoon was going for with this book but, to me, this book is just one big adorableness fest! It was super fun to read with all the pictures throughout the book. Before picking up this book I had heard of it’s amazingness, and had the highest expectation for it. Personally to me, I’m not sure if this book lives up to the incredible hype surrounding it, but it was definitely a fun, entertaining and light read.

As I said, I found this to be a pretty light read, which if you’ve read the blurb for this book, which you can here, that may surprise you. I’m not sure if Yoon’s plan was to make this a darkly themed book with Madeline being pretty much trapped in her bubble of a house because of her disease, but I was never truly emotional invested in the horror of the disease because of Madeline’s upbeat attitude. I think I would have liked a bit more detail into Madeline’s disease. It’s not like it was brushed over or anything it’s just, that since it’s such a ginormous part of her life there would be a bit more detail!

I have said countless times in different reviews that I LOVE ORIGINAL FORMATTING in a book!!! Give me something a little different and I’m pretty much guaranteed to love your book just a smidge more! Nicole Yoon’s husband, David Yoon, did all the illustrations (and I’m also presuming the amazing cover art) and there light, fun vibe is so fantastic!! I’m not usually a fan of short chapters (you know when a chapter is like half a page) but in this book, it kind of just worked seamlessly! I also loved the email and IMing conversations, they were mostly how Olly and Madeline communicated for majority of the book and I found them really sweet.

OKAY CAN WE JUST TALKING ABOUT OLLY FOR A SECOND!!! Who doesn’t love a quirky, strange, loving boy like Olly!!!! WHO?? He’s fantastic! The way he’s so careful around Madeline and so hopeful made my heart clench! Ahhh!! I just loved it!!

SO WHO ELSE DID NOT SEE THE MOTHERFUCKING PLOT TWIST COMING!!! I’m not going to spoil anything but I did not see it coming AT ALL and I was not prepared for how betrayed I felt on Madeline’s behalf!!

Overall this is a fantastic book!! So fun and easy to fly through! Not what I would have guessed it to be from the blurb but I definitely enjoyed it! I’m certainly going to keep my eye out for anything else Yoon publishes!!

I thought Olly was utterly ADORABLE too. Omg. I did see the plot twist coming though. >_< SO I kind of didn't really love the book because of it?!?! Like I wanted to know about this disease and I didn't think we got any info!! WAH. 😛 But Olly was beyond perfect and I loved the friendship turned romance. omg, I read an ARC off Netgalley and it didn't have those illustrations…but they look so awesome! XD
Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!
