Yeah, now the series doesn’t match, story of my life.

So it’s absolutely no surprise that this was one of my most anticipate – if not the most anticipated – book of 2015! I love this series with every fibre of my being!!! Have you heard the good news – THEY’RE TURNING TOG INTO A TV SERIES!!!!!!!! I AM DYING!  I am happy to report that Queen of Shadows was P.E.R.F.E.C.T.I.O.N.

Going into Queen of Shadows I had my own expectations on how the book was going to go and to be honest I was completely wrong! You would think me being so wrong about where I was expecting this book to go would have annoyed me about this book but it didn’t at all!!! Sarah J. Maas is a wizard and knew exactly where this story and these amazing characters needed to go. Queen of Shadows feels like the closing of a chapter. Like books one through to four where one chapter in Aelin’s life and now a new chapter can begin.

One of the biggest changes in this book – actually this book contains a whole heap of changes so maybe not one of the biggest, but definitely one of the most significant is that Celaena Sardothien, the girl we’ve been following for 3 books, Adarlan Assassin’s, is gone. The girl who selfishly looked out for herself and kept her head down and just hoped for freedom is gone, and in her place is Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen. Aelin is a mature and responsible, she is dedicated and loyal, she is a Queen. Celaena and Aelin may be the same character but the character growth Celaena has gone through up to this book has produced Aelin, who is amazing. It’s like Celaena and Aelin are to totally different characters, if you read Celaena from Throne of Glass and compared her to Aelin from Queen of Shadows you wouldn’t think it’s the same person. Guys I love the person Aelin is so much! I never realised I had traits about Celaena I didn’t like until she became Aelin and they were no longer there!

Okay, so as long as I have been reading the ToG books I have been 100% behind Chaol, but then Rowan came into the equation in Heir of Fire and my unwavering loyalty to Chaol started to waver and then in QOS it completely toppled over. I love Rowan. I want to read this book over again just because I want more Rowan. I feel like (as I’ve mentioned above about Celeana and Aelin feeling like two totally separate characters) Celeana and Chaol were perfect together but Aelin’s perfect match is Rowan. Rowan is perfection and I don’t have any other way to describe him.

Guys, you won’t believe how fucking happy and joyful I was when Aedion and Aelin finally reunited! My soul soared! Like flew away!! I knew how much he missed her and how all he wanted was to get her back safely and askjjfhsdfhlsfh! Literally it was one of my favourite parts of this amazing book!

Manon is back and better than ever! I swear Maas is was born to write amazing female characters! With how in depth and flushed out Manon’s storyline has gotten, Maas could have written an entire series on her and her thirteen! Talking about her thirteen, we get to know them better in this book and I seriously love them! Through Manon a new and amazing character, who I’m assuming going to be very important in the coming books, Elide! I don’t want to spoil who she is but BIG THINGS!!

So this is when shits about to get spoilery!!! THIS IS YOUR WARNING: SPOILERS LIE BEYOND! (and not just little spoilers but like HUGE spoilers. If you haven’t read the book don’t spoil it for yourself!!! And if you have read the book: WE NEED TO TALK!!

A couple of things I need to have a dance and/or a complete freak out over:
  • Fucking. Yes. The King is DEAD!!! And what he said about it not being his plan???????? Crazy!!! I have been waiting since like 20 pages into Throne of Glass for that asshole to die and it’s finally happened!! And Dorian and Aelin to be the ones to do it!!! Justice served!
  • On that note, Arobynn Hamel. Ever since reading Assassin’s Blade I have needed with every fibre of my being for him to be dead!!! And then sweat, sweat revenge. And Aelin got all the money!!! LOL!!!
  • They freed Dorian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You don’t even understand how scared I was that they’d have to kill him
  • Chaol and his new girl – I totally ship that!! I’m so happy that he and Aelin are both going to be happy separately!
  • Lysandra is a shapeshifter??!?!?!??!?!!!!!!! Plus Lysandra and Aelin being friends!!! YES I actually love it!
  • The scene when Aelin went to Sam’s grave. Cue the tears. Like bowling like a little baby I am
  • They have the WYARDKEY!!! (how the hell do you spell that word???)
  • Ohmygoodness! All the Vlag! And then the Vlag King is in What’s His Face.

Overall, Queen of Shadows was fan-fricken-tastic! Bring on more please!!!! Only 12 more months *sobs*

Friend me on Goodreads 🙂

Guys, I updated my Goodreads reading progress like 10 times while reading this book – I’m surprised people didn’t start to unfriend me :/ haha! I just needed to share the love!!

I’m glad you enjoyed this, even though I didn’t. xD I think I might put up a discussion post of all the reasons this didn’t live up to my expectations soon, since my review was just all over the place. xD

Ah, and because of that very reason, it was disappointing for me. I think this book divided the fandom into two very different groups- those who prefer the first two books (like me) and those who prefer the third and fourth. Oh well, I’ll still be continuing on because I’m very much invested in Chaol, Dorian and Manon! 😀

  2. I was basically internally shrieking through this entire book!!! I loved it so much! I honestly enjoyed this book more than all of the other books- I loved the direction the characters went in, though I was sad that Chaol was so hostile during most of the book.

  3. Queen of Shadows was literally the bomb O_O I was quite disappointed with Heir of Fire, but Queen of Shadows was such an improvement in many areas, and so, so epic. Loved Aelin here and her kick-ass ways and how she matured so much. Plus, even Manon was great!!! 😀 I didn’t like her much in HoF but here I looked forward to her chapters so much. Great review ❤ I had to make a spoilery video about this book too because I just couldn't not talk about many great scenes and developments.

  4. […] Untitled (Throne of Glass #5) by Sarah J. Mass – Okay is anyone else worried that we’re less then 10 months away from September / August (which is when every other book in the series has been published) and we still don’t have a title or a cover?????!!!! Just letting you know, if the 5th ToG publication date is pushed back I may cry! Just saying! | Release: Unknown 😦 | Previous Books in Series: 4, and a novella collection (The Assassin’s Blade. Throne of Glass. Crown of Midnight. Heir of Fire. Queen of Shadows) […]
