Discussion: My Reading Habits

I saw that Elizabeth @ The Bookish Universe did a post about her reading habits and since I’ve been wanting to start doing discussion posts were I can just ramble about bookish type things I figured I’d start with telling you all about my reading habits.

I HAVE to be comfortable. I hate reading and not being warm and comfortable! I mostly read at home curled up in my bed or on the couch under my doona and just snug as a bug in a rug. I will read while sun baking buts that’s just like a really intense doona haha. I sometimes read while in the car or on the train but I usually cant get as sucked up in the book as when I’m by myself and comfortable.

I can only read one book at a time. I get so jealous of people who can read two or more books at the same time, whenever I try that I always end up getting more connected to one story then the other. Which results in my like one of the books over the other, even though if I was reading them one after another they may be just as good as each other.

Pristine conditions. Human beings of the world who write in there books, dog ear the pages, break the spine, WHERE YOU DROPPED ON YOUR HEAR AS A CHILD????????? Oh my God! I can’t handle it! I’m not an anal person who has to have her space super clean, I’m actually a really messy person but one thing I need to look as if I just brought them are books. I do not write in my books! I do not FOLD PAGES! I do not break the spine! It’s like a mantra. It like truly upsets my to know people do that.

Quiet. When I read I need there to be quiet. The only exception to this rule is when I’m on the train and then I’ll listen to music as I read, but it isn’t ideal for me as I have trouble concentrating to the book if I have a song I love playing in my ears.

Making notes. So I don’t forget important things that need to be in my review I make notes on my phone in the notes app. It’s just usually a list with things like Ann – depressed – 207, or World building – 136, or Ann -about dad – 86 – the character, what the note is about and then a page number so I can back and check later. But usually I’ll have this awesome list of notes but then only use like 4 things in my actual review. Oh well.

Favourite genres: I love fantasy and paranormal, they will usually be the first books I pick up to read next. I have probably only read 5 books IN MY ENTIRE LIFE that didn’t have any form of romance. I don’t need a book to be a full romance but I do need it to have some couple I’m rooting for. I mostly read YA but  I sometimes read NA and Adult if the synopsis interests me.

What are your reading habits?? Do we have any in common? Let me know 🙂

  1. I always have to be comfortable too. I love the notes idea. I always want to remember things and I don’t want to actually write in the books (if I’m reading a physical copy). On kindle I can at least highlight.

If I’m listening to music and a song I really love comes on, I always find myself getting distracted and singing along to the song lol. I listen to the Explosions in the Sky station on Pandora and the music on there has no words, but the music itself is great and that helps when reading and wanting to listen to music without getting too distracted from it.

  2. I usually take notes as I read too 😛 And I read multiple books at the same time..Sometimes if I’m not really enjoying a book, it helps me to read something else for a while and then get back into the story and see if I’m enjoying it more (that doesn’t always work..though..) 😀
